Head Down, Marching Onward...

After my mini mental breakdown on Monday I decided it was time to leave the house so Tuesday I went with DH to take Abi to Bicton. We had a nice drive there, an amble around Exeter then back to collect Abi before heading home. I did have one awkward moment when I had to express a little milk to give Lucas his Colief and had to express into a teacup in Tesco cafe. Honestly, the things I do for this boy!! It was a nice day out and Im glad I got to escape the house for a while considering the rest of the week has been hard.

My parents came to visit Friday til Tuesday and they were a great help if you ignore their less than helpful comments. It was rather fun to prove them wrong though though especially when they say "well have you tried putting him down?"  (Errrr, NO, what do you think?) "He wakes up immediately, watch... oh look he's awake".  I did this several times and it finally sank in. It was the same with her advice on rattles "Why dont you give him a rattle, he's bored" ......(9 separate attempts later) "oh I guess he really doesnt like to play with rattles", and her recommendation that he should play on the floor "Oh I guess he really does cry after a minute on the floor"*sigh* What? Did she think I made it up to sound worse? Why would I not do something If I could.Yes Mum, I have one of those babies!!
Despite all that, they left on Tuesday and the void was distinctly noticable. I'd like to say I didnt fall apart but sadly I did.
Moving on...
Tuesday we saw THE most spectacular forked lightening (purple and red!!) during an amazing thunderstorm and the heaveist rain we've had in a while. Thankfully dh got to Devon and back without having to struggle with the weather too much. The rest of the week has been wet, horribly wet - Autumn is definitely here. Thankfully I have the likes of Railway Children, Swallows and Amazons, Incrdible Journey and Water Babies on DVD to keep us going and several jigsaw puzzles waiting to be completed.
I managed to go to a support group yesterday, so at least I got out and today we are going to a friends' house- not looking forward to that. Well thats not true, she's lovely, but the whole grumpy baby thing is a bit hard to handle when Im out. On Friday we have Sebs friends coming to visit whihc will be nice.

  1. I swear both mine had tilt switches, because every time you put them down, they woke up and expressed their disapproval, loudly. They wanted to be close to me, or, better still, out and about and seeing things so I practically lived in our park the first few months. And I know what you mean about visiting friends. It's such an effort, but having them come to you is just as bad and it all seems too much. That said, they have grown into delightfully independent children, so maybe they got that stage over with in one rush! Hopefully, Lucas will do the same.

As for falling apart, your hormones can't have settled yet, so you're bound to be more up and down than usual, but it honestly will pass. Before you know it, he'll be crawling and... no, I'd better stop there, hadn't I?

  3. Yep my eldest had a tilt detector. It got to the point where we had to laugh about it (because otherwise I'd have cried).

He ended up in our bed, and probably would have benefitted from the whole baby-wearing thing, that is so popular nowadays (at the time I had him the slings were lousy and my back was bad).

He had a habit of throwing up in other people's houses, so we didn't do the whole 'coffee group' thing much lol...

  4. Lucas is in our beds most nights too. I tend to just hold him to sleep mostly. As for the sling, he is great in it once he's asleep but tends to scream the place down whilst I'm putting him in.
Know what you mean about the old fashioned slings, they were horrid things.
