Well I wasn't going to, but I ended up signing up to several sites for Seb. Hopefully its all worth it.
Reading Eggs was recommended by a friend and has good reviews. This is going to be a bit of a 'Must Do' on the list. Then there is Study Ladder which we used when it was smart kiddies. Not sure yet how it'll go but Im expecting this to be another 'Must Do' item. Both Jump Start and Math Blaster were discovered using Anne's Knowledge Adventure link. And I also joined True Learning which I saw highly recommended on a friend's website.
So far we have only had a little play on the websites. Reading Eggs is a bit of a hit so far. I started Seb at the very beginning which is way too easy for the most part but its a good refresher as he keeps forgetting the sounds of different letters especially C,G, J, U, W and Y. I was also impressed to discover that there is a reading comprehension scheme for older kids.
Study Ladder is irritating me already, instead of interactive, Seb is having to have me read all his work, definitely not what I was hoping. Again there are activities for older kids.
Jumpstart and Mathblaster are excellent games and if you are a member you can download 4 learning games suitable for children aged 3-10. All very impressive.
The failure for all of them is that Seb needs me there to input his details and access the right bit. There is a lot of click-through to reach his lessons so until he works that out its more taxing than I'd like. I am trying to get into the habit of logging in when I get up each day for now. I'll see how the online thing goes but I must confess I DO prefer pen and paper!
It sounds like a good start, and at least Seb hasn't actively rejected it. I prefer pen and paper too, especially after a 'wonderful' morning trying to introduce Monster to the Mathletics Maths Challenge. It was not a match made in heaven... and it was all my own fault for not snagging it first. He read the words 'Maths' and 'Challenge' and wanted to go for it, then, according to him found it was neither!
